Free audio converter, in your browser
MP3 Converter
A free MP3 converter for audio and video files: MP4, MOV, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG and more become MP3s from 128 to 320 kbps, or WAV for editing. Add a whole folder, keep the song details, and download each file under its own name. Everything runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device.
A recorded lesson
An MP4 lecture as a 128 kbps MP3: speech needs no more, so the file is a small part of the video.

What does an MP3 converter do?
An MP3 converter turns other audio files, and the sound inside video files, into MP3, the format every phone, car stereo and music player opens. This MP3 converter reads MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus and AAC, lets you choose 128 to 320 kbps or WAV instead, and does the work in your browser, so nothing has to leave your device.
How to use the MP3 converter
Three steps, the same for one file or a hundred.
Add any audio or video
Drop files of mixed formats together. The MP3 converter looks inside each one and lists what it found: codec, sample rate, channels and length.
Pick MP3 or WAV
For MP3, choose 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps with the size shown for your file. For WAV, choose 16, 24 or 32-bit and the sample rate.
Convert and keep going
Download each result under its original name, then hand it to the transcriber, the vocal remover or the stem splitter if the job isn’t done yet.
An audio converter that shows its work
A free audio to MP3 converter that is quick, and clear about what each file becomes before you download it.

One converter for audio and video
Music from a FLAC library, a voice note from a chat app, the sound of a phone video or a game capture: the MP3 converter reads them all and writes MP3 or WAV. It works out each file’s format from its content, so a wrongly named file still converts.
Pick the quality, see the size
Every bitrate shows what it would weigh for your file. Speech is clear at 128 kbps; music you love deserves 256 or 320. The MP3 converter suggests a bitrate from the source and says when a higher one would only add size.
Which format to choose
MP3 plays everywhere. WAV is for editing, CDs and video projects. M4A, FLAC and Opus each have their place, and this audio format converter turns any of them into the first two.
Your files stay on your device
With this MP3 converter, reading, decoding and encoding all happen in your own browser. A family recording or an unreleased track never has to be sent anywhere, and a big file starts at once because there is nothing to upload.
Song details travel with the music
Title, artist, album, track number and cover art come from M4A, FLAC and MP3 sources into the new MP3, so a converted album still looks like an album in your music app and on your car’s screen.
Long files, short waits
The MP3 converter reads files in pieces rather than loading them whole, so an hour-long recording is no harder than a song. On a desktop, a 60-minute WAV becomes an MP3 in about 27 seconds.

Files it can’t open, and what to do instead
- WMA and WMVWindows Media files: save them as M4A or MP4 first, for example with a free media player, then convert.
- AVI and FLVOlder video containers: a free media player’s convert menu turns them into MP4 in a minute.
- AMR and 3GPRecordings from older phones: open them in a free media player and save the sound as WAV.
- AIFFMac audio files: export them as WAV from your audio app, then convert the WAV here.
- AC-3 and DTS soundSurround tracks in films and some camcorders that browsers can’t decode; a command-line converter on a computer handles them.
- Copy-protected filesFilms and songs bought in stores play only in their own app and can’t be converted.

MP3 converter guide: formats, quality and batches
What an MP3 converter actually changes
Every audio file has two layers: a container (the file type, such as M4A or MKV) and a codec (how the sound itself is compressed, such as AAC, Opus or FLAC). An MP3 converter decodes the codec back into plain samples, then encodes those samples as MP3 in a new file.
Pictures in a video are never decoded, which is why a 4K or HEVC clip converts as easily as a voice memo. Only the sound track is read, along with tags such as the title and the cover.
A bitrate for each kind of source
The right bitrate depends less on the format you start from than on what is in it. Lower rates drop the highest frequencies first, which speech barely uses and music relies on. The MP3 converter suggests these rates by itself.
- 1Voice notes, calls and lectures: 128 kbps. Mono recordings stay mono.
- 2Phone videos and podcasts with music beds: 192 kbps.
- 3Music from streaming downloads or AAC files: 256 kbps keeps everything they had.
- 4Lossless sources (WAV, FLAC, ALAC): 320 kbps, the highest MP3 allows.
A higher bitrate can’t bring back detail the source never had. When the original is a 64 kbps voice note, 128 kbps already holds all of it.
MP3 or WAV?
Choose MP3 for listening: it is a quarter to a tenth of the size of WAV and plays on practically every device. Choose WAV when the sound goes into a program that edits it, such as a DAW, a video editor or a CD burner, because each later save from MP3 would compress it again.
Converting MP3 to WAV keeps the sound exactly as it is, with no quality added: it just makes the file easy to edit. The MP3 converter trims the silence MP3 encoders put at the start, so the WAV lines up with the original recording.
Where the formats you meet come from
Knowing a file’s origin tells you what to expect from it before you convert.
- 1M4A and AAC: iPhones, iTunes, podcast apps. Lossy, usually 128 to 256 kbps.
- 2FLAC: lossless music libraries and downloads from music stores that sell hi-res.
- 3OGG and Opus: chat app voice notes, browser recordings, game audio. Very small files.
- 4WebM and MKV: browser and OBS recordings, downloaded videos with Opus or AAC sound.
- 5WAV: recorders, DAWs and CD rips. Uncompressed and large.
Converting a whole folder
Select every file in a folder, or drag the lot onto the MP3 converter at once; mixed formats are fine. Each file gets the same settings, keeps its own name and its own tags, and appears in the list as it finishes, so you can start listening before the batch is done.
On a phone, choose files from the Files app rather than the photo library: the picker may pass a re-encoded copy of a video instead of the original.
Other ways to convert: desktop apps and the command line
A desktop audio editor opens most audio formats and exports MP3, one project at a time. A free media player with a convert menu handles audio and video, also one file per run, without showing sizes first. Both need installing, where this audio format converter opens in a browser tab.
On the command line, one command converts any format: ffmpeg -i input.flac -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 320k output.mp3. Add -vn when the input is a video so only the sound is kept.
